BASE COAT, CLEAR COAT, TONE & TEXTURE

Many paint systems or products require multiple finishes. In some cases, it could be a base coat and clear coat combination, a tone and texture application, two-tone or multi-color finishes, or all of the above. A base coat is the color coat that is applied before or under a clear coat. Most vehicles today are finished in this manner. The color of the vehicle is applied first and then the clear coat is applied on top. This provides an added layer of protection and improves the overall appearance by increasing the gloss of the finish and adding depth that so many customers desire. When used in combination, a base coat and clear coat can extend the life and durability of the finished item.

In addition to a base coat and clear coat system, tone and texture applications coupled with two-tone finishes are very common in the medical industry. The tone or base coat is applied first. Then, a texture is applied using the same paint but a different application technique. This gives the surface finish a slightly different appearance. The texture size can vary from small grains of sand to large pebbles. Often coupled with multiple colors, this gives your finished product a diverse and attractive finish. This technique is perfect for hiding imperfections that arise from use of the equipment that may be apparent with other finishes, like fingerprints or scratches.
